Smiley support?

So far our users are loving FR, but a few have requested support for smilies. Not necessarily while posting (they can type in smiley codes manually), but when viewing threads. Currently they see the smilie code rather than a smilie.

Not a major thing, but a bit of polish that might be nice.

This has been requested before, unfortunately support for smilies is *extremely* difficult to implement. the iPhone doesn't support animated gifs in the first place (unless loaded into a WebView, which is a very resource hungry widget).

I have implemented code to do static smilies, but it slows the app down terribly from the resource overhead.

That is unfortunate. I'll relay that information onward to my users, I'm sure they'll understand. Doesn't hurt to ask! :)
