Grey screen

I've had several users (and confirmed myself) hit plain grey screens when trying to load a thread (using the latest iPhone app version as of this date). After going back and re-clicking, the thread will load fine.

I don't know where to begin troubleshooting this - is there an error log I can browse?

I think u it may help u, if u post more info about ur forum software/version, URL and ForumRunner version ur using. Meanwhile I would delete all and re-install.

Can you let me know what forum this is with and what threads? As well as what device? (is it iPhone or iPad)?

This is on VB 3.6, with random threads (I have no specific examples right now). iPhone 4 and 3GS have reported this issue.

I think it may be a problem with my httpd server, but just curious to know if there's anything I can do myself to help troubleshoot.

Sorry for the late reply. We're still having this issue, at www.talkbass.com/forum

We do have AdSense (not admob) enabled. I'll try disabling and see if it makes any difference.

Can you give me exact reproduction steps to get this issue? And perhaps a screen shot?

It's a rather frequent random issue. Here's the bug thread on our forums:

This thread has also caused some users to grey-screen, so that's one example :) Otherwise, it seems to happen randomly with all thread view pages (not forumview)

I'd attach a screenshot, but it's simply an all-grey screen :) That's all u see.

I just tapped into about 40 random threads using the most recent version and everything worked okay.

It seems to be version independent, with iOS 4 users initially reporting this, and now iOS 5 users report the behavior is unchanged. I'll try and collect data on devices and versions.

Ok, got more info. This issue appears to be device and OS independent (affects iPhone 3GS's as well as iPhone 4's) and iOS 4 as well as 5.

This issue should be reproducible. A few moments ago for example I turned on my iPhone 3GS (ios 5), loaded the TalkBass Forums forum app (forumrunner 1.5.7), clicked "Bass Guitar Forums" -> "Bass Guitar Forums" -> "Effects [BG]" -> "Multi Effects for Cover Band?!"

Upon touching that thread, I got a spinning wheel for just a couple seconds, then a plain grey screen (I see the forum name and button at the very top, and the "Forums - Current - Messages- Profile - More" buttons at the bottom, the the entire rest of the screen is grey).

I then can go back, and touch the thread, and it will load fine. This issue affects random threads.

This issue is affecting a great many of my users, and they're getting quite annoyed :(

I'm trying to think of other variables that might come into play here. Are you on WiFi or cellular?

I'm testing on an iPad 2 via WiFi with the version that's in the app store and just spent 15 minutes tapping around in the app and everything is working as its supposed to.

Maybe its a profile issue? Is it possible to log in as a user that is experiencing the issue? If so, please PM me the login credentials.
