Default Unable to PM - 01-10-2011, 11:51 PM

Recently, possibly since the update though I believe it has worked at some point since then, whenever I try to send a private message the app crashes and the message is not sent. PMs are the only function I have noticed this occurrence regularly for, though on occasion leaving a thread after posting but before it reloads will also crash (unrelated and less significant as the post works fine).

It is possible that this is simply an error due to the specific forum not updating their FR plug-in, since I have only tried on MangaFox and it has been causing occasional parsing errors as well(which actually don't seem to do anything).

There are also more minor bugs involving threads not being shown as updated properly, but That's not what this is about.

My system is the iPod touch 4th gen running iOS 4.2 and the most recent Forum Runner software.

EDIT: My apologies, the source of the error was not Forum Runner. Being logged in on the same account through Safari will cause this, and I expect there is no way to prevent it on your end. Disregard this bug.

EDIT2: And now it's happening again -_-
Guess I was wrong about the cause...

I just logged into MangaFox and sent a PM okay.

When you say the app crashes you mean it completely just dumps back to the iPhone home screen?

Are you running 1.4.0 of the Forum Runner app? If so, maybe its something with your account - can you please send me your credentials in a PM so I can log in and debug the issue?

thanks

My... Credentials? What's that?

Anyways, I'm using whatever the most recent version is. It doesn't seem consistent so I'll try a few things to see if I can get a good estimation...

So far tests are conclusively showing that it was actually only messages to a single account that were causing the error though the cause is still unclear...

Credentials, like your login/password for the site. It apparently only happens when logged in as your account, so in order to see what the server is sending to cause the parse error, I'll need to reproduce the bug.

However, if you are using the latest version and you get the parse error, you should be able to hit "report" and it send me a report log that can help.

I *do* see any issue with MangaFox and the "online" tab not working. Were you using the "Online" Menu?

even if it would fix the issue, I don't give anybody access to my accounts.

Well, regardless I just figured it out in my head while typing this. I'm guessing Forum Runner has issues with untypable characters. The user in question that was crashing the app has a username composed entirely of characters that don't exist on the iPod keyboard. I have experienced similar issues with a different user whose name cannot be typed, but I didn't think of it this time for certain reasons.

That's fine, and completely understandable. Some people don't mind, which is why I ask as it helps debugging

That would do it. What does the username look like so I can search for it on the site?

Assuming that such weird symbols don't break copy/paste too, it's .Łûċγ.

What could possibly make her use that I don't know >.<

That actually probably is it. Also MangaFox is running a VERY old version of the plugin which could also be causing the issue. I'll mail them to update.

thanks,
rob

No problem, I guess?
I don't see what I did as especially helpful, but okay.
